How will the Great Sign be Seen?

Many people have asked, "How is it possible to see the Great Sign of Revelation 12:1-2 since the sun is smack dab in the middle of it?" The answer has been typically from myself that: "It is by its nature a daytime sign, since the sun is involved, which can only be observed on the computer in total. Just because people can't actually see it when it happens does not mean that it isn't there. Sure, maybe John was able to see it since he was taken to heaven where there was no atmosphere to illuminate and hinder the view. And its true, we believers should all be in heaven likewise when it happens so we will observe it as well." However, this sign would appear to be for Israel and those on the earth. Those who are soon to be tested.

There may be one aspect to this Sign that has not come to the forefront. I remember someone sharing this with me back in 2006 as summer ended at that time. It is Amos chapter 8.


"Thus the Lord GOD showed me: Behold, a basket of summer fruit. And He said, "Amos, what do you see?" So I said, "A basket of summer fruit." Then the LORD said to me: "The end has come upon My people Israel; I will not pass by them anymore. And the songs of the temple Shall be wailing in that day," Says the Lord GOD - "Many dead bodies everywhere, they shall be thrown out in silence." Hear this, you who swallow up the needy, And make the poor of the land fail, saying: "When will the New Moon be past, That we may sell grain? And the Sabbath, that we may trade wheat? Making the ephah small and the shekel large, Falsifying the scales by deceit, That we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of sandals- even sell the bad wheat?" The LORD has sworn by the pride of Jacob: "Surely I will never forget any of their works. Shall the land not tremble for this, And everyone mourn who dwells in it? All of it shall swell like the river, heave and subside like the River of Egypt." And it shall come to pass in that day," says the Lord GOD, "That I will make the sun go down at noon,  And I will darken the earth in broad daylight; I will turn your feasts into mourning, And all your songs into lamentation; I will bring sackcloth on every waist, and baldness on every head; I will make it like mourning for an only son, and its end like a bitter day."

This is the vision of the summer fruit at the end of the season. The New Moon is the Feast of Trumpets and the Sabbath is the Sabbath of Return, which coincides with the Revelation 12 Sign of the Woman on Saturday, September 23rd. Does Amos provide the clue as to how those remaining on earth will be able to see the Sign? With the sun darkened at noon the Sign would pop out in dramatic fashion. That is something to consider.

Indeed, Amos 8 may hold the answers to the exact fulfillment of the Revelation 12 Sign of the Woman. The illustration of the basket of summer fruit depicts the ripeness of the time and the fact that it is the end of summer. There is also only one new moon festival and that is the Feast of Trumpets and that occurs at the end of summer. This year of 2017, the observed Feast of Trumpets  is on September 21st, which happens to coincide with the last day of summer. Think about that!

The next step seen in the context is the passing of the Sabbath so the cheating of people may begin again. The Revelation 12 Sign occurs on September 23, 2017 and that day is a Saturday-the Sabbath. It is not just any Sabbath, but the Sabbath of Return. The problem though is though there might be a physical return of Israel, there is no spiritual return up to this point. God then says he will cause the sun to go down at noon in broad daylight.

Most commentaries believe this event happened in the past and try to link up a solar eclipse that was years later in the 8th century BC and only nearby Israel. However, the context is at the end of summer and thus the beginning of the Fall Festivals. God is stating that he is beginning the time of the End for his people and what should be a time of rejoicing on the Feast Days will become a time of mourning. The Revelation 12 Sign fits this time like a glove. While God does not say what day the sun goes down at noon, it would seem fitting that it also would land on the Sabbath of Return-September 23, 2017. Therefore, the Sign of Revelation 12 would become visible on earth. That would seem to put the Great into the Sign.

When looking at the Revelation 12 Sign through the Book of Revelation, the match in the heavens and the uniqueness of the event has been found. That would seem significant in itself. But if the sun goes dark in the middle of the day for some period of time it will be quite shocking to those who haven't even begun to understand what is happening.  A similar event happened at the Cross when the sun went dark, but that was not at the end of summer. It was also similarly not a solar eclipse since on Passover it is at a full moon. The darkening was caused supernaturally.

So let us play this out for this coming September. If the Rapture occurs on the Feast of Trumpets, that would be on Thursday September 21st by previous understanding. This is the day of the new moon. If millions of people disappear, that will be quite shocking and will lead to a quick breakdown of society. For Jews who comprehend the Old Testament, it will be even more ominous and I would suspect some will find the current discussion of the Revelation 12 Sign. And then a few days later when it goes dark, the Great Sign will be seen and many may believe, but many more are going to be deceived.

If the sun has to be darkened in broad daylight at the start of the judgment, it is hard to see it not coinciding with the Revelation 12 Sign. A sign viewed on an astronomy program is helpful, but if the whole world is confronted with it the way it was meant to be, that is quite another thing. That is great. That is astounding.
